Data Representations releases new tool: Simplicity for Mobile Servers.
New tool demonstrated at JavaOne provides an integrated way to create wireless and server-side Java Technology-based applications simultaneously.SAN FRANCISCO, CA, March 24, 2002-
The official release of Simplicity for Mobile Servers was announced today
at JavaOne 2002 by Data Representations, Inc. Simplicity for Mobile Servers
includes multiple tools that ring in a new era for Java developers assigned
with the task of creating interactive mobile applications for corporations,
business users, and ASP models. These applications can then be deployed
on applications servers and Java-enabled wireless devices such as cell phones,
PDA's and pagers.
"Simplicity for Mobile Servers marks another milestone in the evolution of the Simplicity for Java family of Rapid Application Development Tools," said Carl Sayres, president and founder of Data Representations. "Today, many corporate CTO's and CIO's want to move forward in the wireless arena but the lack of tools, applications and directions have stalled their plans. We have created an entire RAD solution that enables developers to drag and drop their way from integrating back-end data all the way to deploying applications on multiple styles of client-side hand-held devices."
Simplicity for Mobile Servers consists of special versions of Simplicity Enterprise and Simplicity for Mobile Devices. The Simplicity visual, component-based, rapid application development environment comes with a built-in development server leaving mission critical servers free from development chores. Developers can add functionality to their servlets including working with JDBC/ODBC databases, XML documents and selecting form data. Component modules such as Form, Database, Table, and XML Export are selected from a tool palette and then dragged and dropped onto the Composer in a logical order. Once completed, the application can be deployed onto an appropriate J2EE server.
Creating a dynamic servlet and exporting XML data is only the beginning. Simplicity for Mobile Servers also contains an enhanced version of Simplicity for Mobile Devices. With Simplicity, a developer can create robust applications for any cell phone, PDA or pager using the Java Technology-enabled MIDP API. This special version of Simplicity for Mobile Devices integrates a MIDlet with the servlet.
For communication purposes Simplicity for Mobile Servers includes the Simplicity XML Transaction Caching Engine. The engine eliminates the need to write a custom parser that accepts and sends XML data communication between a server and handset. It automates the transfer of data between the server and mobile device by parsing XML data and then mapping it to the integrated MIDP application. In addition, if the server isn't available it caches both requests to the server and XML responses from the server in the handset.
Simplicity for Mobile Devices continues Data Representations' tradition of developing RAD tools so that programmers of all levels can create robust applications without retooling their entire knowledge set. The true WYSIWYG way of programming is so intuitive and graphical, a programmer's need for researching specific device APls is virtually eliminated. A developer simply has to drag and drop components onto the visual composer. The developer can then choose to have further code generated using the "Code Sourcerer" which interviews the user in plain English, gathering the information needed to automatically generate the Java code for the user automatically, or they can enter their own code in manually. Simplicity's exclusive "Execution-On-The-Fly" feature then allows the developer to view how each line of code that they've created works immediately after it's been written, unlike other tools that require a user to save, compile, and then port the JAD file to a post-processing emulator for testing.
