Data Representations, Inc. releases Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition.
New toolset allows corporations to modernize, unify, and repurpose legacy data sources from AS/400, 3270, 5250, UNIX, VT and other mainframes.New York, NY, October 1, 2002-
The official release of Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition was
announced today by Data Representations, Inc. Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation
Edition is the only cross-platform, all-J2EE solution for integrating legacy
applications with modern application servers. The Legacy Rejuvenation Module
is part of the Simplicity Enterprise development toolset. "Simplicity is
very different than other legacy tools that require the use of expensive
proprietary servers to run the repurposed applications," said Sal Danna,
Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Our competitors may claim to offer
open architecture, but their technology is actually based on proprietary
servers. On the other hand, our technology is based on industry standard
J2EE, giving users a choice of applications servers such WebShere, WebLogic,
and Sun One."
Simplicity Enterprise produces scalable Enterprise applications based on J2EE standards. Simplicity Enterprise uses its own embedded server to ease development. When the application is compete, it is deployable to any J2EE server such as BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere or any J2EE Servlet Container such as JRun and Tomcat. Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition allows corporations to aggregate data from multiple back-end data sources including green-screen legacy applications, JDBC/ODBC and third party applications via the open API module in order to create Java server side applications.
Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition allows CTOs, CIOs and IT managers to meet their objectives in this trying economy. As always, business leaders face the challenge of staying ahead of the competition. However, recent cutbacks in budgets demand new technology that result in greater return on investment. One powerful way to increase ROI is to boost ROAs of proven legacy architecture and programming assets. With Simplicity, new powerful repurposed applications can meet these demanding needs while fitting well within budget.
Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition also handles operational headaches for CIOs and CTOs caused by mergers, cutbacks and centralization. Where there was once one backend system, now companies often have two or more with disparate databases and multiple applications. For instance a common problem can now be found in many Customer Service Departments. The apparently simple act of order entry now often entails referring to two or three separate applications accessing different databases. Each transaction takes longer since multiple screens must be accessed. This is magnified when the Accounting, or Service Departments needs to access these same disparate systems. Having a variety of backend systems and departments accessing the same data greatly increases the chances for error in billing or shipment, resulting in higher operational costs. Simplicity allows corporations to unify data without ever compromising the original legacy code. It also allows companies to offer the same data in self-serve models for customers or for mobile deployment to remote employees. The changes result in improved customers experience and drastically reduced operational costs.
Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition is very easy to use and learn. By dragging and dropping graphical modules which often require no coding, developers can quickly incorporate any server-side data source into new applications. Such applications can target any client, including HTML, WML, and XML clients or mobile wireless devices such as PDAs, phones and pagers using J2ME/MIDP. The source code output by Simplicity Enterprise is completely non-proprietary, cross-platform, and written in 100% Java.
The Rejuvenation Edition of Simplicity Enterprise adds legacy applications running on AS/400, Mainframes and Unix Servers as sources of data. Using graphical modules, data is automatically detected, configured and incorporated into J2EE applications. The core technology in Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition can transform existing applications using TN-3270, TN-5250, and VT terminal types into new custom web applications. The new applications feature much friendlier graphical user interfaces that are easier to use and learn than the original legacy green screens. Once the data is extracted, it can be combined with modules targeting any J2EE technology such as Web Services, JDBC and XML. As an example, it is possible to combine legacy with CRM and other databases. The source code for the original application remains unmodified, protecting the integrity of the legacy program logic.
The open architecture of software created with Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition means that developers may select the hardware and application server which best meets the desired criteria for reliability, scalability, and security. The scalable nature of J2EE servers means that adding users is as simple as configuring additional servers. And only J2EE servers offer built-in scalability and redundancy infrastructures to ensure easy deployment from thousands to millions of users. The J2EE architecture also enables far better security of mission critical servers. If deployed by positioning the AS/400 or mainframe behind the J2EE server with a firewall, only the new services are made available to employees, users or customers. The legacy server is protected, because direct access is physically blocked.
Simplicity Enterprise Rejuvenation Edition preserves investments in the billions of lines of code that are trusted to run mission critical applications on AS/400, Mainframe, and Unix Servers. Code, written in Cobol, RPG, and other legacy languages, is prohibitively expensive to rewrite for modern application architectures, and is often trusted by businesses to run mission critical services. Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition preserves this investment through a completely non-invasive rejuvenation process. The rejuvenation components communicate to the legacy application through the application's user-interface protocol, automatically capturing data and propagating changes. The legacy application continues to operate in its native environment, unaware that anything has changed. By not interfering with a single line of the original source code, Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition ensures that critical business processes remain untouched. All new code created for interacting with the legacy application is written in pure Java, conforming to industry-standard, open programming interfaces. This ensures the open, multi-vendor, cross-server interoperability of the new applications.
With Simplicity Enterprise: Rejuvenation Edition, existing mission critical applications can now co-exists and interact with new software systems. Information can now be rapidly moved between employees, customers, legacy systems and J2EE-based sources of data - all in unison. By leveraging existing infrastructures and enhancing them with new modes of computing such as the web and wireless, businesses will be able to better compete.
