Simplicity Enterprise™ provides a visual approach for creating server-side Java Technology-based web applications quickly and easily. The Standard Edition is a J2EE RAD tool that allows you to aggregate data from many sources into an intuitive graphical interface, and in minutes, transform that very same data into robust web applications.

The WebMacro™ template processing engine is used to merge the information produced by the Servlet into a document to be delivered to the client (often HTML or WML, but any document type may be used). This approach completely separates the program logic from the presentation, allowing the graphic designer and the software developer to work independently.

The Simplicity Enterprise Servlet Composer™, a key element of Simplicity Enterprise, includes a palette of modules containing all the typical features which a developer needs when building server-side applications. Now you can select the required features, drop them into a graphical program execution tree, configure the modules, and test the Servlet. The Servlet will be designed in an integrated environment that's built for seamless development and testing.

The Simplicity Enterprise Module Palette™ contains icons that are dragged and dropped into the Enterprise Composer to accomplish various tasks that Servlets are commonly required to do. These objects consist of a library of modules that can be used to assemble a working Servlet.

Execution-On-The-Fly™ technology, found only in Simplicity, is combined with our built-in development web server that provides instant working Servlet results. As you program, every line of code you create is instantly integrated into a working model of your program providing a real time view of your working model. The reliability of your code also improves because you can test your code as you create it. Servlets can be built quickly and accurately since this feature eliminates the tedious task of saving, compiling and deploying to see if each line of code works.

Each module is designed to perform some common task that Servlets may require. By selecting Modules that accomplish sub-tasks that a Servlet requires and then dropping them into the Modules node of your Servlet in the order that you wish to perform the associated tasks, you can often build an entire Servlet without writing any Java code at all. Once a Module has been dropped into the Module node of the Parts Tree, a new node will be created in the tree for that Module. The Simplicity Enterprise Module Palette contains modules for working with databases via JDBC, parsing XML, and manipulating files, as well as modules for controlling flow of execution and http header manipulation. Simplicity Enterprise provides an open API where developers can add their own custom modules to the palette, allowing the flexibility to meet individual and industry-specific needs.

Now you can add functionality to your Servlets including working with JDBC/ODBC databases. Using our Database Tool, you can select tables, choose which columns to display, and which rows to include...all without writing a single line of SQL. And every SQL statement that you create can integrate seamlessly into your output template with simply a click of a mouse. You can choose where the data should be displayed and which components should control where statements are executed. You can even choose to substitute values from a component into your SQL statement, so that end users can specify values that will become part of the query.
