Set up the Jar files

On the Jar pane of the Application packager the name of the Jar file may be set. This name should agree with the MIDlet JAR URL on the Properties page. The default values are usually fine.

Jar files may be compressed or not, but in most cases compression is recommended.

Set up the PRC files

On the PRC pane of the Application packager the type of PRC which is generated may be set. Simplicity can create PRCs which will run on Tungsten devices, or PRCs which run on older devices which use Palm OS 3.5 or 4.0.

You may also choose a creator code for your Palm OS application. When your product is ready for release you will want to register a unique creator ID with PalmSource. For testing purposes, the default creator code will work.

You may also choose a large and a small icon for your application. However, these icons will only display on Tungsten devices.

Build the Jar and Jad and PRC files

To Build the Jar file and the PRC, press the Build button, located at the bottom of the window. Classes in the Jar file will be preverified, and then added to the Jar file. Resources will be added to the Jar file, and a Jad description file will be generated. If a PRC was chosen on the PRC page, a PRC will then be created. The Jar and Jad files should be kept together as they are both needed to run the MIDlets in the Jar. On the other hand, to load files onto the Palm OS, all you need is the PRC file.

The Jad and Jar files created may be tested in Simplicity by choosing run from the pop-up menu obtained by right-clicking on a Jad file in the IDE.
